This calculator converts between Warp factor, a multiple of light speed, travel time, and Stardate, using the scale introduced with "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (TNG). Unlike in the original series, speed on this scale does not increase linearly with the Warp factor: Warp 1 is exactly light speed, but Warp 9 is already about 1516 times light speed, and the curve approaches a theoretical asymptote at Warp 10 ever more steeply without ever reaching it (Warp 9.999999 already corresponds to 500,000 times light speed). The Stardate, in turn, is the in-universe date system of the TNG era: starting in the year 2323, it advances linearly by roughly 1000 units per calendar year, so fractions of a year can be read directly off the decimal part, without having to worry about months, time zones, or leap years.
